History of Bhutan Scout Association (BSA)


1996    -Youth Guidance and Counselling Section was established under Education Department, Ministry of Health and Education. Scouting program was chosen as one of the channel to promote value education among the students.
1997    -The first Basic Scout Unit Leaders training was conducted by a group of International Scout Leader Trainers under the guidance of Mr. S.            Prassanna, Adult Resources Director, Asia Pacific Regional Office, World Scout Bureau, Manila. A total of 33 teachers attended the course at the Youth centre, Motithang. Mr. S. Sukuma, the National Training Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides, India was the Course Leader.
1998    -The second Basic Scout Unit Leaders training was conducted at Bajo HSS, Wangdue. Mr. Abul Kalam Azad, Dy. Commissioner, Bangladesh Scouts was the course Leader. The course was assisted by the international Scout Leader Trainers. A total of 16 teachers attended the course.
A total of 17 Scoutmasters attended the Advanced Scout Leaders Training in Bangladesh from
1999    -The 3rd Basic Scout Unit Leaders Training was conducted at the Youth centre, Motithang and it was attended by 29 teachers.
Bhutan Scout Association became the member country of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) during the 35th World Scout Conference in Durban, South Africa on 26th July.
The 4th Basic Scout Unit Leaders Training was conducted for 34 teachers at the Youth centre, Motithang.
The 1st Basic Cub Unit Leaders Training was conducted at the Youth Centre, Motithang from 15 – 22 February and it was attended by 22 Primary School teachers.
The 1st Commissioner Course was conducted for 48 key officials in the Dzongkhag such as DEO, ADEO, Principals and Head teachers at the Youth Centre, Motithang from 23 – 25 December.
2000    -The 5th Basic Scout Unit Leaders Training was conducted at the Youth centre, Motithang for the first time by the national training team members lead by Mrs. Thinley Wangmo, Training Commissioner, BSA. The course was attended by 27 teachers.
The 2nd Basic Cub Unit Leaders Training was conducted at the Youth Centre, Motithang for 41 teachers.
The 2nd Commissioner Course was conducted for 42 DEOs, ADEOs, Principals and Head teachers at the Youth Centre, Motithang from 21 – 23 December.
The 1st Advanced Scout Leaders Training was conducted for the first time in Bhutan and it was attended by 34 Scoutmasters. The course was lead by Ms. Thinley Wangmo and assisted by a group of international Leader trainers.
The SAARC SAF Scout Friendship Camp was held in Thimphu for the first time from 20 – 26 February. Around 550 Scouts and Scout Leaders from the SAARC countries participated in the event.
The Course for Assistant Leader Trainers (ALT) was attended by 5 BSA Wood Badge holders in the National Scout Training Centre, Panchmarhi, India.
2001    -The 6th Basic Scout Unit Leaders Training was conducted at Chumey HS, Bumthang and was attended by 33 teachers.  7th Basic Scout Unit Leaders Training was conducted at the Youth Centre, Motithang, Thimphu for 30 teachers.           
The 8th Basic Scout Unit Leaders Training was conducted by Thimphu DSA at Lobesa JHS, Thinleygang for 30 Thimphu teachers to strengthen             the DSA.

The 3rd Basic Cub Unit Leaders Training was initiated by Dagana DSA. The course was attended by 20 teachers under Dagana DSA.
